Jo’s Boudoir Photoshoot

I love creating a very empowering environment for both maternity and boudoir photoshoots.

Jo’s shoot was so much fun for me. It is refreshing to get a woman, especially who has been married for a while and has children, in the studio with the intention of feeling comfortable, confident, and empowered.

We did this shoot in the studio at Studio A2 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I love simple studio boudoir sessions like this. Paired with my perfected editorial-style lighting, it makes for glamorous galleries.

Why Do a Boudoir Shoot?

Usually boudoir shoots are for a gift or occasion—Valentine’s day, a birthday, or wedding day.

No matter the motivation, the sentiment is usually along the same lines. You (or your partner) want to celebrate and empower you and your body with a shot of something different. A confidence boost to last a lifetime and a half.

Trust me, future you will thank you. It is beyond cool to have these images to look back on.

Maybe you’re not having a great day or you just need a confidence boost. When you are old and gray, weathered and worn, you will treasure the memory. You will remember how it felt. And it will mean everything to you. You will be so grateful that you loved yourself enough to book the shoot.

We all need experiences like a boudoir photoshoot. You need to have experiences that remind you how beautiful you are.

Come as You Are Boudoir – An Empowerment Photoshoot

Sometimes we are held back from booking the session because we aren’t very confident or feel like we need to lose weight first. Respectfully, that is TRASH. You do not need to make yourself smaller, hit some milestone, or wait to do a boudoir photoshoot.

You need to show up as you are.

At the end of the day, what’s important is less how your body looks and more how you feel.

Authentic Boudoir Photography

As a boudoir photographer, it is an important value of mine to create images that are authentic. I do not cosmetically alter my images in any way. This is a safe space for women (or anybody for that matter) to come and celebrate their bodies. Your skin is just as valuable with its authentic textures.

Of course, I love it when my clients get glammed up with hair and makeup that makes them feel confident, but it is important that I help my girls celebrate who they are in this exact moment in time. Which means I don’t airbrush, I don’t tummy tuck, I will not alter an image in service of creating a more curated look. The point is to celebrate you exactly how you are.

Metro Detroit Luxury Boudoir Photographer

I would say that my style as a boudoir photographer is a little different than the mainstream. Unlike mainstream boudoir, I love to make my subjects really be the focus of the photos. The sets are very minimal. I don’t like to use a lot of props or furniture, it is truly about celebrating you.

I also encourage clients to come with outfits and wardrobe that is very minimal. You can see Jo has jeans and a blazer in one set of images. An everyday outfit, something that you would wear every day and she makes it look so sexy.

We did some with the sheets and others with a classic black lace set. Simple, classic, glamorous. The simplicity in the details keeps my boudoir photoshoots very modern, very elegant.

I love this style of boudoir. It is edgy, but it’s for the everyday woman. Any woman, mother, wife, whoever can feel super sexy and confident and bring that confidence with them beyond the shoot and into everyday life.
