Family Portraits at Maybury State Park

We took the Toscano’s family portraits (with a sweet twist) on a late October evening. Sam had a vision of an autumn golden hour session and we absolute lucked out with this unseasonably warm October. Even though it was approaching Halloween, we were able to fit in this beautiful golden hour family portraits session at Maybury State Park in Northville, Michigan. This is another one of my favorite spots to shoot outdoor sessions. I just love the way the sunsets look in this park with the long, tall grass and the brush.

The Toscano’s are longtime clients of mine. I had the pleasure of taking their first son’s newborn photos and now, family portraits to announce the upcoming addition to their family! It is a special thing to document your family in all of its different stages.

Outdoor Baby Announcement + Family Portraits

This was a sweet family photography session, documenting their family as it is growing. It also happened to be an opportunity to share that they are expecting again! They brought along a little letter board to share the news in their portraits.

I suggested wearing neutrals to complement the autumn tans and earth tones in this field, especially since it was towards they end of fall when most of the leaves have fallen. Their outfits went together really well and gave us lots of fun textures.

It was a really fun evening to grab some more traditional family portraits as well as some candids. Dad blowing bubbles, baby Ren running around and cheesing with those precious curls.

Sunset Family Portraits Photography

The Michigan sunset added such a beautiful element to this session. Everything went so well with the light to create this really emotional imagery.

You can feel their excitement, the happiness for what is and what will be, the pup’s joy just to be there, baby Ren’s sometimes minor indifference (fruit snacks for the win), and major giggles from Dad’s tickles. We not only captured the way that their family looks RIGHT NOW, but the way they feel.

I also happened to be photographing some of the Toscano’s friends that evening, so towards the end they jumped in for a group photo, which was so fun! I love this part of my job SO much; getting to connect with people and meet others through my clients. It’s fun to meet my client’s friends and family and get to know everyone even more. It makes my circle even bigger. Connection is joy.

Never sleep on family portraits. Take the photos while you can and document the little things. The baby hair, the scraggly teeth, the sweet giggles. Take the photos.
